Does Adele Believe Her New Mansion Is Haunted?

Is Adele as unlucky in matters of real estate as she previously was in love?

The six-time Grammy winner, 23, recently purchased a £7 million home in Sussex, England (more than $11 million), but now is afraid to sleep there alone because she believes it's haunted, according to British tabloid The Sun.

Adele allegedly told a friend the house "gives me the creeps" after she heard a few things going bump in the night, and has moved her female bodyguard into the 10-bedroom mansion for protection at a reported annual rate of £100,000. The "Rolling in the Deep" singer also hired two additional security personnel to guard the 25-acre property, which used to be a convent and has a private chapel as well as two swimming pools, reports The Sun.

"Adele was so excited to be renting such a lavish property but it has not turned out as happily as it should have," a friend of the singer's told The Sun. "She is convinced it is haunted. She knows about its religious history - and it's a big place to be in on your own in the dead of night."

A rep for the singer had no comment. Last month, while giving Anderson Cooper a tour of the home for a 60 Minutes segment, Adele reportedly quipped about a dark hallway: "This bit is quite scary. ... Have you ever heard of The Shining?"
