Coldplay, Beyoncé Rock a 50th-Anniversary-Appropriate Halftime Show

It took 50 years to get to this moment.

Coldplay, Beyoncé, and Bruno Mars took the stage at Super Bowl 50 for a breathlessly hyped halftime show, and turned in a performance to cap off 50 years of halftime history.

The show started with random fans taking the field with Chris Martin before Coldplay assembled on the stage, along an entire Day-Glo coloured orchestra. The band opened with "Viva La Vida" before transitioning into "Paradise," backed by a full youth marching band.

Unlike the Red Hot Chili Peppers' show last year, the band appeared to be playing their actual instruments, while we guess will give Twitter one less thing to snark about.

Two songs in, Bruno Mars took the stage with "Uptown Funk," because none of us heard that song enough in 2015.

Finally, Beyoncé took the field (literally, she didn't appear onstage) with "Formation," before she and her team of dancers progressed to the stage to battle Bruno Mars and his team of dancers. Finally, Mars, Bey and Chris Martin teamed up for the final chorus of "Uptown Funk" before Coldplay re-took the stage for a version of "Fix You" backed to a montage of halftime shows from years past.

Well, 50 years in the making?
