Céline Dion and René Angélil: Their final days together

As Céline Dion mourns the death of her husband of 21 years, followed two days later by the loss of her brother, Daniel, sources take WHO inside the star’s final days with her soulmate.

In the last year of Angélil’s life, as his health worsened, Dion, 47, “wanted to be with him 24/7 in case anything happened,” a source close to the couple tells WHO. “Every decision up until the day he died was made with him still. He had good days and bad days, some days he could get up and walk around the room, play with the kids, and some days he was too tired.”

In his final months, Angélil took joy in watching from home as his wife performed in Las Vegas, where’s she's in residence at Caesars Palace. His work with Dion, “was his life,” says the singer’s longtime stylist and friend. “It was keeping him going and he loved it."

At home in Las Vegas, the couple worked hard to maintain a sense of normalcy for their three sons, supporting René-Charles, 15, at his hockey games, while twins Eddy and Nelson, 5, “go from the pool to the sandbox to the crayons,” Dion told WHO last year.

The music manager died of throat cancer on Jan. 14. A state funeral is scheduled for Jan. 22 at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, the church where he wed Dion in 1994.
