Chris Hemsworth on Wife Elsa Pataky: 'From the First Time We Met, We Just Made Sense'

In the December issue of Elle, Hemsworth opens up about his diverse array of upcoming movies, the importance of family and his happy marriage with actress Elsa Pataky.

"There was no light bulb moment," the In the Heart of the Sea actor, 32, says of how he knew Pataky, 39, was the one. "From the first time we met, we just made sense. She's fun. She's outgoing, and she has a sense of humour and a passionate attitude toward life, which is nice to try to keep up with."

Hemsworth credits his family – he and Pataky are parents to daughter India Rose, 3, and twin sons Tristan and Sasha, 1 – with helping him keep his fame in perspective.

"I can say that [my family] has certainly kept my feet planted firmly on the ground – I've been able to bypass a whole lot of garbage, traps that I could have fallen into," he says. "I had a taste of it when I was younger and on a TV show in Australia, and it wasn't of great interest to me even then."

This levelheadedness in the face of massive celebrity is notable, especially considering Hemsworth has played superhero Thor in several films, was named PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive in 2014 and is currently working on several potential blockbusters.

One of these is The Huntsman, in which he plays the title role. It serves as a prequel to 2012's Snow White and the Huntsman and, he says, will be "more fun" than the original.

"I wanted there to be more humour in it, and a sense of adventure; we didn't want it to be too bogged down in being serious or self-important," he says. "It's a love story, essentially, between the Huntsman and his wife, who's played by Jessica Chastain, but it's also a road-trip movie. They team up and take off, them and a couple of dwarves, on a quest."

He's also trying his hand at comedy, with the upcoming female-led Ghostbusters reboot, in which he'll play a receptionist.

"We all just loved being around him," says Kristen Wiig, one of the film's stars. "He talked about his family so fondly."

She adds, "He did show up every day shirtless and tried to lift people's trailers to show off, but none of us minded."
