Nick Gordon 'Lost a Soul Mate', Says Relative

For his part, Gordon steadfastly maintains that he had nothing to do with Brown's death, according to those close to him. "Nick says he didn't do anything to hurt Krissi," says a relative of Gordon. "He did not cause her death."

Regardless of any scrutiny Gordon, 25, is under, his relative tells WHO that any legal proceedings take a back seat to Gordon's mourning. "He lost a soul mate," says the relative. "They were young people who had a troubled background, but were in love."

However, Brown's family believes that Gordon knows more than he's saying. Last month, her conservators filed a $40 million lawsuit. In the papers, they accuse him of domestic abuse and of stealing money. (Gordon has assembled a high-profile legal team to determine what happened on the day Brown was found unresponsive. Thus far, they have not commented publicly on the proceedings.)

Gordon's relatives are steadfast in their support. "He is only guilty of being a young kid," says the relative. "He will have to find a way to move on, but he is in pain now. He'll be in pain for a long time."
