LAFD confirms to PEOPLE that a patient was transported to a local area hospital after a medical emergency call but wouldn't confirm the patient's status. Reps for the singer did not immediately respond for comment.

It's not known at this stage what caused the medical emergency but TMZ reports that the singer was being treated in intensive care late Tuesday.

The Canadian singer, an eight-time Grammy winner, is best known for hits like "Woodstock," "Both Sides, Now" and "Big Yellow Taxi." She got her start as a folk music performer before finding mainstream success in the early '70s. Her songs have been covered by everyone from Sarah McLachlan to Hole, and have been sampled by artists including Janet Jackson and Kanye West.

Earlier this year the iconic star was featured in an ad campaign for Saint Laurent.
