William Tyrell's parents have reached out to the public to help them find their missing boy.

In a letter provided to WHO by NSW Police, the couple, who cannot be named for legal reasons, write, "We wake up every day hoping this nightmare will be over. We desperately miss our baby boy. Please, if you have seen or heard anything - anything at all, call Crime Stoppers."

The letter "gives you an insight into their desperation," Det Insp Gary Jubelin, who is heading the investigation into the boy's disappearance, tells WHO. "They fluctuate between hope and despair."

At the time of his Sept. 12 disappearance, William was at his grandmother's house with his sister and was last seen walking towards the back of the property in Kendall, 350km north of Sydney. A local tradesman was investigated, but not named as a suspect.

Police are now treating the case as a homicide and are seeking to question "anyone who was within a 1-kilometre radius of where William disappeared from," says Jubelin.

"There would be a certain amount of suspicion around a person that doesn't come forward."

Write William's parents: "We desperately want our little boy home where he belongs."
