Meet the new Michael Hutchence

Luke Arnold

With his mop of curly brown hair and easy charm, up-and-coming star Luke Arnold has been told for years that he looks like the late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence.

"It may be because I left my hair long that people have been bringing up a resemblance for a long time," Arnold, 29, tells WHO.

The resemblance has proved to be a kickstarter for the long-time fan of the iconic six-piece Sydney band that was one of the biggest acts in the world in the 1980s and ‘90s. When Arnold heard that a mini-series about INXS was being made, "I thought, 'Maybe I do have a chance to play Michael Hutchence," he says, and recorded auditions of himself dancing and singing as Hutchence (who died in 1997 aged 37).

The producers, including INXS guitarist Tim Farriss, were impressed, and cast him in Seven’s two-part miniseries INXS: Never Tear Us Apart, (premiering in February) alongside Samantha Jade as his one-time lover Kylie Minogue.
"It’s a dream job," admits the Adelaide-born actor, with a grin.
