Tabloids have been rife with rumours about what caused longtime couple Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis to split after fourteen years together, the the French born singer, actress, and model, is determined to keep her two kids with Depp, Lily-Rose, 13, and son Jack, 10 out of the spotlight.

“I don’t sell my private life, and nobody knows the truth or has done a proper journalist’s work on that situation,” she tells the Daily Beast when asked about what went wrong between the seemingly solid duo.

“Nowadays, people speculate, but nobody knows! I have my children to protect," she says. "There are children involved, so it’s really no one’s business but the family.”

Paradis' new interview comes on the heels of new rumours that Depp has reconciled with his Rum Diaries costar, Amber Heard, with whom he was previously linked to in June following his split with Paradis.

Ignoring the media, Paradis says she copes by being a good mother: “What changes with motherhood is that you’re not No. 1 in your life anymore. Suddenly, someone counts more than yourself,” she says. “It makes you a better person, less selfish and more aware of others. The biggest love of your life is born, and it’s the one love that never fades, but keeps growing stronger.”

As for whether she still believes in true love and soulmates, Paradis is more ambiguous:

“Love starts with a gut feeling, but that gut feeling better be nourished,” she says. As for soulmates, “The idea of a soul mate is a beautiful thing to put in a film or in a book, but in real life I’m scared by it,” she says (while declining to specifically discuss her recent breakup). “It’s like putting a label on love."

"To say, ‘You are, forever, my soul mate,’ is almost like knowing the end of a story. When you fall madly in love, you think it is forever, and it might be and it might not be—what matters is not to label it."

life is life and life is short ... you can not say what someone feels for another... do not presume to live a celebrities life and try to hold every thing together.. or try to assume that you know what 2 people have gone through as adults to get to where they are now.... I am a divorcee got nothing out of my past.. lucky girl you will... but at the end of the day ... stuff the universe and all the little people in it.. hope at the end of the day you get to smile again and grow from the experience of loving a man and raising children... remember to know who you are and to love yourself

Won't somebody think of the children! I have no time for parents who split for selfish reasons and leave their kids emotionally crippled for life. The parents will argue that the kids will always come first and they will be fine in the long term..but we all know it irrevocably damages them.

Obviously the two previous writers know more then anyone else. Breaking up with anyone is a very sad thing especially where there are children involved. I can only hope the pair come to some arrangement seeing the children are cared for into the future. And the gossip mongers and haters should simply look at their own lives and bow out

Vanessa you are missing the point on a soul mate, it is not only madly in love with someone or living without someone it is a connection which no one can cut, regardless if you are with them or not and how far you are away from them.
