Rock chic: Leah Wood

Leah Wood

Late-arrival Kate Moss infamously upstaged her at her own wedding, but that didn’t stop model, designer and aspiring actress Leah Wood, 32—daughter of the Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and his ex-wife Jo—from celebrating the iconic model’s 10th anniversary as the face of Rimmel London, at a Sydney bash on Sept. 21. WHO caught up with the down-to-earth Wood to talk her rock royalty upbringing, acting dreams and raising daughter Maggie, 2, with husband Jack MacDonald.

You brought the ‘Brit factor’ to the Rimmel event. What defines it?
It’s about having a unique style, mixing and matching your clothes and just being comfortable in what you wear. My style is quite edgy—I’m a bit of a chameleon and I love to have fun with fashion. I’m a bit too colourful at times!

How did it feel to be at a party in honour of your pal Kate Moss?
I’m really proud of her. I was looking at all the posters of her and I’m like, ‘Wow, that 10 years went so quickly’. She’s done very well for herself.

We know Kate Moss as fashion icon, whereas you call her a friend. Is there anything we’d be surprised to know about her?
She’s actually quite a shy person!

Does marriage agree with her?
I haven’t spoken to her since she’s gotten married, but I’ve seen lots of photos and my mum told me the wedding was great and Kate looked really glowing and she was just having a right blast!

How you keep your figure catwalk-ready?
I walk a lot! And living here makes it really easy to get outside and walk a mile or two. And running around with my little girl, Maggie. She’s got the longest legs and she keeps me mentally and physically on the go all the time.

Your CV also includes singing and painting. What is your main passion?
I’ve just gone into acting, finally. I went to acting college when I was in my teens and I’ve only just picked it up. After having Maggie it’s only now I seem to have a bit of time on my hands.

What sorts of roles are you interested in?
For me, it’s all about film. I’ve actually been trying to get a little part on The Great Gatsby, which is currently filming in Sydney.

Have you been lucky enough to meet Leonardo DiCaprio?
I met him about 4 or 5 years ago with my dad. He is nice, but he was very quiet.

Has your last name been a help or a hindrance to your career?
Over here I’ve found it quite hard, which is probably a good thing because it’s actually made me want it more. Also, it’s quite a challenging thing for me to prove myself, whereas in London people kind of know who you are and what you do. But it’s been a great learning experience.

Has your dad Ronnie given you any advice you live by?
Yes—always be nice to people, because you never know who you are talking too. Plus, it’s nice to be nice, isn’t it?

Is he a doting grandfather to Maggie?
Yeah. We keep in touch via Skype and I email him all the updates and photos of her growing up. But he’s going to come over at the end of November, so I’m really looking forward to seeing him!

Would you like more children?
Yeah, I think I’ll have one or two more, just to keep the little one happy!
