Robin Williams Suicide: Triggered By Dementia?

Robin Williams shock suicide on August 11 may have been prompted by more than just depression, new court documents reveal.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, the actor was suffering from a form of dementia, Lewy Body Dementia, that his family believes was a "key factor" behind his suicide.

Lewy Body Dementia, as defined by the National Institutes of Health in the US, causes abnormal deposits of protein in the brain and results in progressive cognitive decline, visual hallucinations, and often depression.

TMZ also reports that Williams' wife, Susan Schneider, told authorities that prior to his death, the actor had been complaining about his medication and the way it made him feel.

It is believed that those close to the Williams family believed that Lewy Body Dementia was the "key factor" that drove him to kill himself.

Williams' doctors agreed that the disease was a critical factor leading to his suicide, says TMZ.

Williams was found dead in his home on August 11. He was 63.
