When it comes to songs that make people want to break out and dance at a wedding— it’s no surprise that Whitney Houston is queen of the dance floor!

The “Greatest Love of All” singer holds the most popular wedding song with her hit “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” according to a new study conducted by Breezit, an online search tool that allows brides and grooms to find vendors for weddings.

The company analyzed 2,000 wedding-themed playlists and nearly 50,000 songs on Spotify to identify the top tracks played at weddings, according to Brides. During its investigation, it found that the 1987 hit song was included in about 24% of wedding-related playlists, appearing 484 times.

However, Houston isn’t the only performer who was popular, as Abba’s classic song “Dancing Queen” was right behind it, appearing in approximately 20% of wedding playlists, appearing 397 times.

The song recently made an appearance at a Canadian wedding that went viral last month after a bride and groom’s guests surprised them by dancing in a flash mob to the upbeat anthem.

This was followed by other hit songs from the early '00s, including Usher’s “Yeah!" and The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside." Earth, Wind and Fire’s 1978 single ”September” rounded out the top five, appearing in about 18.45% of wedding playlists, according to Bride.

Artūras Asakavičius, co-founder and CEO of Breezit, noted that several of the top songs on the list are "wedding classics" that have found popularity on the wedding scene years — and sometimes even decades — after their release.

“Music plays an incredibly important role in wedding celebrations, and it’s fascinating to see which songs are still hailed as wedding classics, even years after their initial release,” said Asakavičius, per Bride.

“Wedding playlists can help create lasting memories, capturing both the joy of the dance floor and the romance of walking down the aisle,” he added. “Certain songs have become intertwined with the celebration of a wedding, which is why some have become timeless classics for many couples’ big day.”

Other recent stars that made it on the list were Beyoncé and Bruno Mars who entered the top 10 most played songs at weddings with their singles “Crazy in Love” and “Marry You.” The Black Eyed Peas party hit,  “I Gotta Feeling” and “Low” by Flo Rida also made it on the top of the list. Another song talking about dancing, Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance” cracked the top 10 as well.

Earlier this year, The Knot revealed in its annual Real Weddings Study that Elvis Presley’s "Can't Help Falling in Love" ballad topped the list of most popular first dance songs for brides and grooms in 2023.

Presley bumped longtime frontrunner, Ed Sheeran’s "Perfect" from the top spot for the first time in seven years. Behind "Perfect," Taylor Swift took the No. 3 spot on the list with "Lover," off her 2019 album of the same name.
