West Ham vs Leeds LIVE!

Leeds were shoved to the brink of relegation from the Premier League after their 'must-win' match at West Ham ended in a 3-1 defeat.

Sam Allardyce's rescue mission reached crisis point after goals from Declan Rice, Jarrod Bowen and Manuel Lanzini denied them the victory their new manager admitted they needed to have any realistic chance of staying up.

Allardyce arrived at Elland Road as a last-ditch appointment with four games to go, but his first three matches have provided just two points.

Now Leeds need to beat Tottenham next weekend and hope a Bournemouth side with nothing to play for can do them an almighty favour at Everton. Moreover, should Leicester beat Newcastle on Monday night, the Whites will start the final day second from bottom.

FULL TIME! West Ham 3-1 Leeds

15:30 , Marc Mayo

West Ham mess up the chance for four after Paqueta fails to find Rice for a tap-in - then fluffs his acrobatic volley!

No matter, though.

It’s a fine end to the season in front of the London Stadium faithful for West Ham, but Leeds are staring down the barrel of relegation.

Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

15:30 , Marc Mayo

It was almost if Joel Robles sensed Paqueta’s desperation to square that to Rice because he didn’t commit anything like as much as you’d expect to stopping the Brazilian.

15:25 , Marc Mayo

90+5 mins: LANZINI SEALS IT!

A beautiful run down the byline by Paqueta sets up the Argentine to slot home... VAR wants a check. Given!

15:24 , Marc Mayo

90+4 mins: West Ham academy striker Mubama enters the fray for Ings, along with Johnson for Fornals in a defensive change by Moyes.

15:23 , Marc Mayo

90+2 mins: Greenwood finds a yard down the right and whips in a good, low cross. Headed behind by Ogbonna.

The corner is nothing special though, and West Ham momentarily clear without racing out of their own half. They’re settling in for this win.

15:22 , Marc Mayo

90 mins: SEVEN added minutes as Leeds look to snatch a vital leveller.

They’re on the attack yet Fabianski has barely been tested this half.

15:21 , Marc Mayo

89 mins: Nearly a chance to seal it for Ings, who dithers in front of goal and allows Robles to nab the ball.

Back up the other end, Gnonto’s cross earns a corner...

15:19 , Marc Mayo

88 mins: Koch booked for slapping Coufal on the top of the head as he went for an aerial duel.

15:16 , Marc Mayo

85 mins: Leeds catch West Ham napping but Emerson is back to block Summerville’s effort before Aaronson slashes his rebound well off-target.

15:15 , Marc Mayo

84 mins: A rest for Bowen, as the potential matchwinner is substituted off for Lanzini.

Leeds make their final changes by throwing Greenwood and Roca on for Struijk and McKennie.

15:13 , Marc Mayo

82 mins: Rodrigo booked for lunging into Paqueta - prompting chants of “you’re going down” from the home end.

15:12 , Marc Mayo

81 mins: Plenty of noise coming out the away end as the game gets back underway.

Their best hope may come in the fact we’re likely to get plenty of injury time.

15:11 , Marc Mayo

80 mins: Concern for West Ham with Ogbonna the latest player to go down after an aerial clash with Summerville, which earns the Leeds man a yellow card.

15:08 , Marc Mayo

77 mins: Koch digs out a shot over the bar from outside the box. Leeds have really failed to look threatening all half.

15:07 , Marc Mayo

75 mins: The flag eventually goes up for an offside in the build-up after Ayling’s expert block denies Fornals.

Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

15:04 , Marc Mayo

I said earlier that Danny Ings was looking more and more involved and that’s a lovely little pass in behind. I thought it was offside in real time but a good decision from the linesman.

15:02 , Marc Mayo

72 mins: THERE IT IS! BOWEN!

VAR wants a check, though... it’s given! The striker was just onside before a fine finish past Robles.

15:02 , Marc Mayo

71 mins: There may be a sense in the West Ham players’ minds that they want to avoid injuries and fatigue ahead of the Europa Conference League final.

In possession and generally on top this half, they’ve hardly gone hammer-and-tong for a second goal.

15:00 , Marc Mayo

69 mins: Soucek, with a busted nose, will play on nonetheless as the game restarts with 20 minutes to find a winner.

Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

14:59 , Marc Mayo

Hard to read from this far away but Declan Rice looks pretty emotional out there.

There’s a break in play for Tomas Soucek’s injury and there’s a big round of “[insert increasing number of years] Declan Rice” going around the ground.

14:57 , Marc Mayo

65 mins: Leeds survive a fresh move from West Ham, Summerville shutting down a counter-attack before Ings’ shot from the corner is blocked.

Paqueta booked for a foul as the visitors look to break.

14:53 , Marc Mayo

62 mins: Here come those Leeds changes as Harrison and Forshaw depart for Summerville and Aaronson.

No exit for the seemingly injured Rodrigo, yet, in what is a forward-thinking move.

14:52 , Marc Mayo

60 mins: Robles leaps up well to deny a bouncing Soucek header as West Ham up the ante!

14:49 , Marc Mayo

58 mins: Before the change, the visitors go on a dangerous attack as Harrison’s cross looks set for Gnonto... but McKennie jumps in first with an aimless header.

Put a name on it, as the saying goes!

14:48 , Marc Mayo

57 mins: More injury issues for Leeds, having lost Bamford earlier on it’s now Rodrigo struggling as Summerville prepares himself on the sideline.

Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

14:44 , Marc Mayo

West Ham’s players have been practicing the old Maradona 360 this week, haven’t they?

We had a glorious one from Declan Rice in the first half and now two in one run from Lucas Paqueta.

14:43 , Marc Mayo

52 mins: West Ham the team more on the front foot early on as Paqueta tests Robles with a hit from range.

Leeds’ first attack comes via an offside Rodrigo, who knows the flag is imminent as he lamely chips a one-on-one onto Fabianski’s midriff. And so it is.

14:41 , Marc Mayo

50 mins: A couple of calls go against Gnonto, clearly aggravating the young Leeds winger as he chops Coufal for another foul.

Referee Peter Bankes takes a moment to try and calm the player.

14:40 , Marc Mayo

48 mins: A fairly low-key atmosphere at London Stadium with a few home fans still making their way back to their seat.

Kick-off! West Ham 1-1 Leeds

14:36 , Marc Mayo

Kehrer on for Zouma in the Hammers backline.

How Big Sam might see that half

14:32 , Marc Mayo

The loss of Patrick Bamford has been a big blow to the Leeds strikeforce yet Gnonto has looked tricky since coming on.

A point might be good enough for Leeds but, surely, they know that this game is their for the taking.

Vulnerable on the counter, it still feels like their best route to victory is to have a go and sit back on a narrow lead.

Highlights: The Hammers level it up

14:29 , Marc Mayo

West Ham have the potential

14:27 , Marc Mayo

The Hammers are more than capable of a win having dominated the middle third of that 45 minutes.

The question is: how much do they want it?

David Moyes will want to see more from Danny Ings and some greater defensive control, but otherwise West Ham look very threatening on the break.

Highlights: Long throw helps put Leeds ahead

HALF TIME! West Ham 1-1 Leeds

14:20 , Marc Mayo

First Gnonto then Harrison make lame connections with a Rodrigo cross after West Ham give it away.

And that’s the break!

14:18 , Marc Mayo

45+2 mins: Both sides appear content with the scoreline with a low-key injury time.

It’s the away team on the front foot and they have a late corner...

A Koch header pops up for Fabianski to snare.

14:17 , Marc Mayo

45 mins: Four minutes added on after a couple of injury breaks.

14:15 , Marc Mayo

44 mins: Leeds enjoying their best spell since their early goal as the half draws to a close, perhaps they’ll regret sitting back so much having taken the lead.

Coufal draws a camera-save dive out of Fabianski as he chests a deep cross back to the keeper.

14:11 , Marc Mayo

40 mins: Better from Leeds as Harrison whips in a cross from the left and Ayling’s touch almost finds Gnonto.

But West Ham are looking fierce on the counter and a smart move finds Emerson down the left... Robles smothers his shot!

14:09 , Marc Mayo

38 mins: Rice is having fun.

A cheeky roulette spin past Gnonto keeps up the renewed party atmosphere as the club captain struts his stuff.

14:06 , Marc Mayo

36 mins: West Ham go in search of another on the counter, Paqueta slipping in Fornals.

But he slashes a left-footed effort wide of the near post!

14:05 , Marc Mayo

34 mins: To compound matters for Leeds, Bamford is going off injured. Gnonto on.

Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

14:04 , Marc Mayo

West Ham’s men of the moment, Pablo Fornals and Declan Rice, with superb bits of play, either side of a clever ball to the back-post from Jarrod Bowen.

That celebratory feel inside the ground is back in an instant.

GGGOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!! West Ham 1-1 Leeds

14:03 , Marc Mayo

31 mins: West Ham are pinning Leeds in now.

It feels like a long game ahead if the visitors are going to park the bus.

And just like that, the Hammers score!

Bowen down the right lofts a ball deep for Rice to net the leveller!

Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

13:59 , Marc Mayo

Jarrod Bowen’s set-piece delivery has been outstanding so far today. That’s four in-swingers that have caused Leeds real problems.

13:59 , Marc Mayo

27 mins: A parade of West Ham corners wakes up the home fans, Rice launching another shot that Ayling deflects wide.

The third corner is headed into a goalmouth scramble and Soucek’s effort is somehow denied!

Eventually Leeds escape with a foul on Robles.

13:58 , Marc Mayo

26 mins: Allardyce just casually spotting a note on the floor mid-match and playing around with the fourth official trying to hand it to him.

You can’t say he’s feeling the pressure!

13:55 , Marc Mayo

24 mins: Rice takes matters into his own hands with a rocket from distance... high, high, high and a bit wide too.

13:55 , Marc Mayo

23 mins: An airing of ‘Marching on Together’ in the away end as McKennie’s next long throw, from further out, is dealt with considerably better by the hosts.

West Ham look a little aimless in possession, lumping a ball upfield for Fornals to chase - which isn’t really his game.

All a bit flat for the Hammers.

13:51 , Marc Mayo

20 mins: Big test for West Ham to build that party atmosphere they hoped for on this last home game of the season.

Coufal lobs a decent-looking cross into the Leeds box, hacked away behind the goal by Kristensen.

Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

13:49 , Marc Mayo

That is comically bad defending. The idea that you can hurl a long throw into the box and the next touch come off someone’s foot, rather than head, is not a great reflection on West Ham.

13:47 , Marc Mayo

17 mins: RODRIGO!

It’s fully deserved for the away side and it’s come from a simple long throw into the box.

McKennie’s hurl lands for the Spaniard to step onto and volley home!

13:46 , Marc Mayo

15 mins: Soucek hands the ball straight to McKennie for a Leeds counter, but Emerson is on hand in the box to clear Harrison’s cross.

13:42 , Marc Mayo

11 mins: Plenty of encouragement for the away end with West Ham walking in defence.

Ayling is picked out by a sweet Forshaw pass crossfield and lays a cross first-time straight at the goalkeeper.

Malik Ouzia at London Stadium

13:40 , Marc Mayo

Danny Ings has shown a few nice little touches and lay-offs in these opening minutes. West Ham have had real problems getting him involved in games when he has started but a promising start here.

13:39 , Marc Mayo

7 mins: Bamford is giving Ogbonna the runaround early on yet, as has been Leed’s issue all season, it’s the final touch that’s still lacking in front of goal.

Harrison lands a volley on target but Fabianski falls on it comfortably.

13:36 , Marc Mayo

4 mins: Half a chance for Leeds!

A Bamford cross from the left somehow evades two defenders and Rodrigo fails to control the ball with the goal at his mercy... allowing Fabianski to collect.

13:34 , Marc Mayo

3 mins: A 4-3-3 set-up as expected from Leeds, Bamford leading the line and Struijk at left-back.

West Ham starting in the same formation with Paqueta fairly deep in midfield.

13:34 , Marc Mayo

2 mins: A couple of early moments for Leeds, Zouma man-marking Bamford as the visitors look to get an early shot on goal.

Nothing troubling Fabianski, yet.

Knollsy has just received a standing ovation on his way to his seat to the right of the press box.

13:21 , Marc Mayo

“We’ve got through, we’ve done what we wanted to do - we didn’t want to be at the wrong end of the table.

“We certainly wanted to get to a cup final, I said that right at the start of the season to the players. To get to a European final is incredibly special for us.

“We can make something good out of what’s not been particularly great all season. We’ve got a couple games to navigate before the final, we have to focus on today and look to try and win in front of our home fans for the last time this season.”

Sam Allardyce speaks out on Patrick Bamford abuse

13:15 , Marc Mayo

Following threats made against Leeds striker Patrick Bamford and his family in the aftermath of his missed penalty last weekend, Sam Allardyce has spoken of the player’s “determination” for today’s game.

"Patrick is determined, he's been in a positive frame of mind since the club helped sort the situation - that seems to have calmed down now,” he tells Sky Sports on the London Stadium pitch.

“Of course it’s very sad to see that situation occur, at such a high intense level where people are threatening your life.

“The only thing that Patrick can do now is go out and make the Leeds fans proud by trying to score the goal that gets three points today, and play his best.

“I hope that that’s the case because he deserves that.”

Sam Allardyce lays out Leeds gameplan

12:58 , Marc Mayo

Leeds boss Sam Allardyce wants his team to calm things down a bit on the ball as they head to West Ham today.

“Confidence has grown, application has been applied,” Allardyce said. “Possession could get better.

“We've been so up for it and so frantic to try and do well, close the opposition down and make life difficult, that when we've actually won the ball back we've still been so hyper that we haven't been able to calm down.

“The difference between those two is something we've talked about - being calmer when we're on the ball.

“Whatever the situation is, we have to deal with it, we have to accept it and we have to make it spur us on to the best performance we can give.”

David Moyes' future in doubt?

12:53 , Marc Mayo

Reports have emerged this weekend from Football Insider that the West Ham manager will walk away from the club at the end of the season.

Having led the Hammers to the Europa Conference League final, Moyes is reportedly planning to quit whatever the outcome against Fiorentina.

Moving back to his family home in the north-west is said to be his priority despite having a year left on his contract.

David Moyes urges West Ham to unleash the handbrake

12:18 , Marc Mayo

With relegation trouble behind them and a place in the Europa Conference League final booked, David Moyes wants West Ham to play with freedom today.

“This is a great opportunity when you have reached the final and hopefully the atmosphere inside the stadium on Sunday will give us a real chance to play without as much pressure as we have been under for a long time,” he said.

“And maybe give the players the opportunity to show the levels they can reach.

It’s difficult to confidently predict how West Ham will approach this match, though it is clear that Leeds go into it with the greater motivation as they fight for their top-flight survival.

West Ham vs Leeds LIVE!

Saturday 20 May 2023 15:58 , Marc Mayo

Hello and welcome!

Sunday’s Premier League action gets underway with a battle of the bottom half as relegation-threatened Leeds travel to West Ham.

Sam Allardyce knows he may not get a better chance to lift his side out of the bottom three than today given the likelihood of the Hammers making several changes to their team, following their European heroics.

It was euphoria for West Ham at AZ Alkmaar and they now play in front of their home fans for the last time this season before next weekend’s final day and the subsequent Europa Conference League final.

In addition, they have secured survival for the next Premier League season and will look to cap a bad campaign domestically with a positive result in east London.

Kick-off comes at 1.30pm BST from London Stadium, so join us at Standard Sport for all the build-up, match action and reaction!
