In one scene a confused Williams appears lost driving around the city, “This doesn’t look like anything familiar,” she says. This moment is juxtaposed with a member of her team stating, “I think she’s losing memory, have you guys noticed that?” Another participant is swiftly quoted stating, “Anybody can look at her and tell this is not just alcohol, there’s something more going on.”
Williams’ family is featured in the documentary expressing concern for her. Her son says, “My mom has done a great job making it seem like everything is OK always. But in reality, there’s something wrong going on.”
In the scene directly following this remark, an off-camera individual asks Williams, “Did you see a neurologist?” to which she replies, “To find out if I’m crazy? Mhm.”
The trailer also reveals that after Williams was placed under financial guardianship by a judge, that system is called into question by her sister and Williams herself.
“I have no money. And I’m going to tell you something — if it happens to me, it can happen to you,” Williams warns.
Williams made a name for herself as the host of “The Wendy Williams Show” from 2008-2021. She was known for the candid advice she offered both celebrities and audience members, in addition to her signature catchphrase “How you doin’?” The show was highly successful and garnered Williams a strong fan base. Prior to her self-titled talk show, she gained recognition for her WBLS radio talk show, which was also the subject of the 2006 reality series “The Wendy Williams Experience.”
Williams stepped down from hosting in 2021 amid medical issues while various guest hosts filled in. The show was later canceled and aired its final episode in June 2022. In the trailer for her documentary, Williams expresses a desire to return to television.
The two-part documentary will premiere on February 24 and 25 on Lifetime. Watch the full trailer below.
