On Saturday night, Weekend Sunrise host Matt Doran was dancing energetically at a friend’s wedding, but just hours later, he found himself bedridden in hospital.
The 35-year-old, who has also been on our screens on Sunday Night, uploaded a video to his Instagram page yesterday, showing him hooked up to a drip at Sydney’s St Vincent’s Private Hospital, while his mum stroked his hair and patted his hands.
It turns out Matt is suffering from a double hernia, which according to the Mayo Clinic ‘occurs when tissue, such as part of the intestine, protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles’.
While it leads to severe discomfort and pain, it didn’t put a dampener on Matt’s sense of humour, as he joked from his hospital bed.
“I can’t go to the gym for a week which is going to be interminable but they said if I absolutely insist I can go on the treadmill,” he said.
A string of celebs commented on his post, including Edwina Bartholomew, who said: “Wow. You really took that wedding MC gig to the next level. Get that man a bar of chocolate”.
Back in October, Matt was confirmed as Basil Zempilas’s replacement on Weekend Sunrise, alongside Monique Wright.
In August, it was revealed that Basil was ‘scaling back’ his commitments at the network by stepping down from his role as Weekend Sunrise host in order to spend some more time with his family.
According to TV Tonight, Basil will remain with Channel Seven and continue his sports presenting duties in Perth, and will be part of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics reporting team.
The daily Sunrise show during the week features hosts Samantha Armytage and David ‘Kochie’ Koch joined by Natalie Barr, Mark Beretta and Edwina Bartholomew.
