A wedding invite is doing the rounds on social media after a supposed courtesy note from the bride and groom turned out to have much more hidden beneath it.
Inside their invitation, the couple had included a note to all the breastfeeding mums attending their wedding.
It seemed to start out as very sympathetic, reading: “To all our mummies who are breastfeeding, we are thinking of you; we are sensitive that you may need to breastfeed during our event”.
However, it goes on to explain that the couple have created “an appropriate space for you to feed your baby so that you do not have to do so in public in front of our Family and Friends.”
With “our family and friends” being capitalised and written in italics for extra emphasis.
As you’ve probably already guessed, the appropriate space the couple speak of is located directly opposite the toilet cubicles in the ladies bathroom and the note concludes that, “we request that you use this area when you are breastfeeding”.
An appalled guest shared the note on Facebook, saying she doesn’t eat in the bathroom, so why should she be obliged to make her three-month-old daughter do so.
“My husband is the best man so it will just be me in the crowd,” she writes, “…no way in hell I will leave and nurse her in the bathroom (no matter how "nice" they make it!)”
Other mums on Facebook shared her opinion that breastfeeding isn’t something shameful that needs t be hidden from the eyes of other guests.
“Like honestly if I couldn't bring my kids and breastfeed. my husband wouldn't be a part of the wedding. It's okay for people to get drunk and act dumb, but it's not okay to breastfeed,” one person says.
Another comments, “Why is breastfeeding still seen as such an obscene thing to do in 2017? As my boyfriend would say "boobs are for babies, babies are for boobs." DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T LOOK! Go drink your beer in the bathroom.”
And we have to agree!
