Jonathan, 61, woos the first-ever Golden Bachelorette with a sweet original verse.

When it comes to the Bachelorette franchise, reciting an original poem on night one is a high-risk, high-reward proposition.

Sometimes, when a guy puts pen to paper and composes a few verses, it sets the Bachelorette's heart aflutter. Just ask Trista Sutter, who still has all the poems her now-husband Ryan wrote her during their season — including one he delivered the night they met. Other times, however, a guy sets up a keyboard and recites a spoken-word poem set to music while the Bachelorette (and the viewing audience) nearly pull a muscle cringing.

I have some good news and some bad news for you, rose lovers. The bad news: Entertainment Weekly can exclusively report that one of the senior suitors will, in fact, recite an original poem for Joan Vassos on the series premiere of The Golden Bachelorette. But here's the good news: It's actually really, really sweet — and we have the video to prove it!

In the preview, Jonathan — a 61-year-old shipping consultant from Iowa — chats with Joan about watching her read a poem during a talent show on The Golden Bachelor. "Something went off in my mind, and I thought, 'Well, wait a minute! I've gotta write a poem,'" he explains to Joan. From there, he invites her to stand while he recites his original composition. "I'm grateful and blessed to see you in that dress"? Y'all, this man has cha-rizz-ma for days. And clearly, the Bachelorette LOVES it. "He really makes a really good first impression," she raves. Does this mean Jonathan will earn the coveted First Impression Rose? We'll have to wait for the two-hour series premiere (Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC) to find out. See you then, rose lovers.
