‘The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live’ Was Originally Set As A Movie, But Could It Return For Season 2? “Anything Is Possible,” Says Zombie Chief
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live has lived a few lives.
The project, which stars Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, reprising their respective Rick Grimes and Michonne characters, originally was set as The Walking Dead franchise’s first feature-length movie before transitioning into a six-part limited series.

It was designed to wrap up the story arcs for Grimes and Michonne.
However, Scott Gimple, Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead universe and showrunner of The Ones Who Live, which is the universe’s sixth spinoff, teased that it might not be that limited.
“Anything is possible — even if Rick dies in the last episode, anything is possible,” he said. “We’re focused on this one right now. But this one came together in a really amazing way, where there were all sorts of plans. And then the world changed and we altered those plans.”
Lincoln, meanwhile, joked (or did he?) that Grimes dies in the final episode of the show, something that Gimple said could be its own “psy-op.”
The series premieres Sunday, February 25, on AMC.
It is a love story between Rick and Michonne, kept apart by distance, an unstoppable power and the ghosts of who they were. They are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead — and, ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the walking dead?
The cast also includes Pollyanna McIntosh returning as Jadis from The Walking Dead, Terry O’Quinn as Beale, Matt Jeffers and Lesley-Ann Brandt as Pearl.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is executive produced by Gimple, Lincoln, Gurira, Denise Huth and Brian Bockrath.
