Walker Hayes Honors Hoda Kotb by Performing Song They Co-wrote

Friday marked the end of an era for TODAY fans. After 17 years, Hoda Kotb hosted her last episode of the long-running morning show. And NBC pulled out all the stops to commemorate her career. She was joined by colleagues and celebrities eager to give her a proper send-off.

The episode and the days leading up to it were emotional, with friends and coworkers wanting to show Hoda how much she was loved and appreciated. But one powerful moment in particular caught the attention of the audience. Hoda was surprised by her friend and country music star Walker Hayes, who joined the broadcast to perform a powerful song. The "Fancy Like" singer's appearance brought both Hoda and Jenna Bush Hager to tears.

Hoda took to Instagram to share a clip of Walker's performance of "Wednesdays." She sang along to the lyrics as Jenna wiped tears from her eyes. Hoda explained that she and Walker wrote the song along with Lori McKenna. The lyrics pay tribute to honoring the regular days you spend with loved ones: "Most days are just Wednesdays. Get up and do the same old same again’s days/If tomorrow ain’t nothing new, I’m just glad I get to do, just another Wednesday with you."

Walker recently shared a video of him singing the song with his daughter, Lolly. Fans begged him to release it with messages like, "Please record this song officially. So beautiful" and "This is such an amazingly great song! Please, please release it. The world needs it!!!
