“The View” cohost Ana Navarro says Messi the dog was 'better behaved than Will Smith' at Oscars
Navarro joked that she enjoyed the 96th Academy Awards because "nobody got slapped."
The View cohost Ana Navarro is still stewing over Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars — enough so that she called out the King Richard star's behavior two years after the initial incident.
"I thought it was pretty ho-hum, but good. Nobody got slapped. It was like, okay, normalcy is back," the Republican panelist said on Monday's episode of the show in reaction to Sunday night's 96th Academy Awards telecast, which remained a mostly inoffensive affair, as opposed to the uproar Smith caused when he assaulted Rock on stage after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's hair during the prior ceremony.
After legal expert Sunny Hostin brought up the Anatomy of a Fall dog, a 7-year-old border collie named Messi, as the "breakout star" of the ceremony, Navarro took another swipe at Smith, who was ultimately barred from attending any Academy-affiliated events for the next 10 years after slapping Rock.
"That dog was better behaved than Will Smith," Navarro quipped, which elicited a smattering of laughter and gasps from the studio audience.
Navarro did not reference, however, the fact that Messi closed the show by peeing on Matt Damon's Hollywood Walk of Fame star — after seemingly remaining in his own designated seat at the start of the ceremony like the good widdle boy that he is.
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
