Plenty of people have flocked to the countryside in the past few years, inspired by the pandemic to find somewhere with a bit more space.

But if you really, REALLY need your space you might want to take a look at the new listing for Cumbria's Skiddaw House - officially 'the most remote house in England'.

Located in the wild landscape around Skiddaw Forest, 11 miles from Keswick in Cumbria, Skiddaw House is situated in 3.45 acres of private land and is only accessible on foot or by sturdy 4X4 vehicle.

Meaning you won't be disturbed by noisy neighbours, lost delivery drivers or, well, anyone at all.

Super peaceful...or a little bit scary?

The ultra remote property, built in 1829 by the Earl of Egremont of Cockermouth Castle, is actually on sale as a private home for the first time in two centuries - having been used as everything from a gamekeeper's lodge to a shooting cabin over the years. It's currently serving as a Youth Hostel - the highest in Britain at 1,500 above sea level.

With six bedrooms, the property takes off-grid living to the next level. It's served by natural spring water and receives its only electricity from solar panels backed up by a diesel generator.

"If you’ve ever wanted to experience the joy of no neighbours, and total peace and quiet, then the most remote home in England might be the one for you," says Tim Bannister, Rightmove’s property expert.

With no phone reception and being tricky to access, you’ll definitely need to enjoy your own company. It really does take the idea of having more space and privacy to the next level."

Think this level of remote living is for you? The property is listed as 'price on application', so you'll have to put in a request to find out how much it will cost to live out your hermit fantasies in truly far-flung style.
