Tyler Perry’s First Netflix Series, Beauty in Black, Lands 16-Episode Order
The Tyler Perry Television Universe is extending to Netflix.
The prolific producer has set up a new dramatic series at the streaming service, TVLine has learned. Beauty in Black will be Perry’s first TV show to come out of his evolving creative partnership with Netflix, which started in October 2023 and previously covered only films.

Beauty in Black is a 16-episode drama written, directed and produced by Perry. Each episode will be an hour long. The story centers on Kimmie, who struggles to make a living after her mother kicked her out, and Mallory, who runs a successful business. According to the official logline, “they find themselves entangled in each other’s lives.”
Tyler Perry Studios’ Angi Bones and Tony Strickland also will produce the series.
No stranger to episodic television, Perry’s extensive small-screen resume includes Ruthless, Sistas, The Oval, Zatima, House of Payne, The Haves and the Have Nots, If Loving You Is Wrong, The Paynes and Love Thy Neighbor.
His upcoming Netflix films include Six Triple Eight, a true World War II story starring Kerry Washington, and Mea Culpa, a legal drama led by Kelly Rowland. He also was behind the streamer’s A Jazzman’s Blues, A Fall from Grace and A Madea Homecoming.
