Tyler Baltierra Breaks Down While Opening Up About His Canceled Visits with Carly: 'I Have a Right'

Baltierra and wife Catelynn Lowell got emotional as they discussed missing visits with Carly, whom they placed for adoption in 2009

Tyler Baltierra became a little emotional as he got candid about missing visits with his oldest, whom he and wife Catelynn Lowell placed for adoption in 2009.

In a clip shared to the Teen Mom TikTok, Baltierra, 32, discusses Lowell's social media post from May, in which the mom of four, also 32, vented about missing time with Carly.

The Baltierras — who met in high school and began a relationship in 2005 — have a relationship with their biological daughter Carly, whom they placed for adoption in 2009 during their time on the Teen Mom origin series 16 & Pregnant.

"I mean, I made the post out of anger and frustration, obviously. People on the internet, I don’t really give a f— about," Lowell says at the beginning of the clip. "They aren’t sitting here when my kids ask me questions. ‘Are we seeing Carly this year? I really miss her?’”

Baltierra goes on to say that it's not his job to protect Carly's parents, sharing, "I have a right to express my story and share it." He also says he believes their missed visit with Carly this year is due to Lowell's social media post.

“I responded, in defense of…I don’t think you need defense,” Baltierra says, referring to his subsequent post on Instagram defending his wife's post.

"Carly is almost 15 years old. Throughout those 15 years, her parents have chosen not to have our mutually agreed upon annual visit multiple times," Baltierra reads from his phone, getting emotional.

"Now is it always disappointing and hurtful when it happens? Yes, of course. Is it sad? Yeah, but at the end of the day, Brandon and Teresa are her parents. They are the only ones who have the authority to make that decision. That is the honor, privilege and gift we chose to give them when we decided that they would raise her and be her parents."

He goes on to read that the choice comes with a "natural, human cost" and that his wife's decision to express her pain should not be used against them.

“I’m going to start crying,” Baltierra says after he finishes reading, putting his face in his hands.

The scene switches to Baltierra and Lowell telling their daughter Novalee, 9, that they wouldn't be seeing Carly this summer.

“Her parents said no,” Baltierra explains to his daughter. “Why did they say no?” Novalee asks.

“We don’t know why they said no, they just said no. Do you think that we deserve a reason, or…?” Baltierra asks, trailing off.

“Well we deserve to meet Carly, that’s the thing," Novalee responds.

The clip then switches to a confessional with Lowell, who explains that adoption is more complicated than one might think.

Although she says that adoption can be a beautiful thing, it's "the things that we’re not told is hard. Like how adopted parents can change visits or totally cut you off completely if they want to."

Alongside Novalee and Carly, Baltierra and Lowell are parents to daughters Rya, 2½, Vaeda, 5.
