Two-Time Oscar-Winner Joins 'Yellowjackets' Season 3

At last, Yellowjackets Season 3 is almost here! The Showtime thriller's third season will kick off in February 2025, as announced on Nov. 19, 2024.

The Season 2 finale was a heartwrenching one (in a series of heart- and gut-wrenching moments). And following delays due to the writers' and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the timeline-twisting cannibal creepfest is coming back. What can we expect? No one will reveal much, but it sounds juicy ... and bloody.

“I will say we see Season 3 as a little bit of a return to Season 1 in terms of the vibe. All I will say is that the girls have been out there for a while and they’re thriving,” show creator Ashley Lyle told TheWrap.

When does Yellowjackets Season 3 premiere?

Yellowjackets Season 3 will premiere on linear Showtime on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025, at 9 p.m. ET. If you have a Paramount+ subscription with Showtime, you'll be able to catch the episodes two days earlier on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025—a great option if you're spending Valentine's Day alone and prefer watching cannibals to romcoms.

Also appearing in Season 3 are Joel McHale and two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank, whose roles haven't yet been disclosed.

Juliette Lewis, who played adult Natalie, won't return after being killed off in Season 2.

What happens in Yellowjackets Season 3?

Lyle told Vanity Fair of Yellowjackets Season 3, "We are going to learn more about what happened in the wilderness that they are so afraid of coming out. We hope it will be both satisfying and at times unexpected. And I think that we have found ourselves—let me think of how to say this. The stakes are pretty high in the present-day storyline, perhaps in a way that they did not feel in Season 2, and that was really exciting for us to delve into."

Season 3 will follow the 1996 timeline, the 2020s timeline, and likely some of the 1998 timeline in which the girls re-enter back into the world after being rescued. The showrunners previously revealed that the show was originally planned for five seasons, with each season covering about four months of the soccer team's journey in the wilderness.

Sammi Hanratty, who plans teen Misty, told Entertainment Tonight, “Season 1 was chaotic and messy. Season 2 was still and cold and dark, and it was winter. And then [Season 3] feels like it’s gonna be the meltdown. We’re gonna see the melting of, like, what these people are.”

Christina Ricci, who plays Hanratty's grownup counterpart Misty, meanwhile, teased The Hollywood Reporter that Season 3 would be "even more shocking and surprising. It’s definitely going to be brutal. But they also put a lot of comedy into it. So I think it’s just going to be...extremely Yellowjackets-y."
