Twitter in uproar over pub charging $50 for vegan cauliflower 'steak' deal

A UK pub has been ridiculed for offering a two-for-one vegan cauliflower ‘steak’ deal for $50.

Jamie Klingler, the creator of the London Seafood Festival, posted on Twitter after seeing the deal advertised on a chalk board outside The Queen’s – which is part of the Young’s pub chain – in Primrose Hill, London.

The vegan roasted cauliflower steaks are offered as an alternative to the pair of Aberdeen Angus sirloin steaks, and many of Jamie’s followers seemed to agree it was ‘mental’.

“Holy s**t. I’m a veggie but would oder the steak just to get some value. Extra chips would be required though,” one person wrote.

“I assume that’s for cauli fillet. Do they have a cheaper option, sirloin, ribeye, or my favourite, cauli rump? Do they trim the leaves and ensure they get the less leafy ones? Do they have supplement for kobe cauli?” another joked.

While there was a lot of outcry about the cauliflower, someone defended the restaurant, suggesting the £28 would include a cover charge.

Another user pointed out that, in contrast to the cauliflower, the steak deal seemed fairly reasonable.

For anyone whose interest has been piqued, the £28 steak deal is available across all Young’s pubs, according to the company’s website.

However, while the site makes reference to the Aberdeen Angus sirloin steaks, there is no sign of the alternative cauliflower steak deal.
