True Colours Film Festival 2021 includes award-winning works featuring people with disabilities, all free to stream

The True Colours Film Festival (TCFF) has returned with 10 features, 20 short films, and four dialogues, all available for streaming for free across Asia. Celebrating diversity and inclusion, the films present new and radical human perspectives about life and the pursuit of happiness.

Among the plethora of unique films, these works about people with disabilities that have received accolades stood out:

• The world's first Oscar-nominated film featuring a deafblind actor, Feeling Through (2019);

• Oscar-winning The Silent Child (2017) that tells the story of a deaf four-year-old girl;

• Oscar-winning Helium (2014) that follows the story of a terminally ill boy;

• Best Fiction Feature in the 2017 International Film Festival on Disabilities, My Feral Heart (2015)

Other eye-catching films include:

• Best Summer Ever (2020), a musical with a cast largely comprising actors with disabilities;

• Nomadland (2020), for which Chloe Zhao won Best Director in the 2021 Academy Awards, and became the first Asian woman (and the second woman) to do so;

• Disney’s animated film Zootopia (2016) that earned numerous accolades

• Documentary Kusama Infinity (2018) featuring the Japanese contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama

“There's no shortage of options for streaming movies on demand, but here you'll discover a selection not found anywhere else, award-winning films and Dialogues about Perspectives that will entertain, challenge and inspire," says Audrey Perera, Executive Producer of the festival.

Features can be watched on The Projector Plus for viewers across Asia. Shorts and dialogues can be viewed around the world via Vimeo. The bonus programme Nomadland can be viewed via Filmbankmedia in Japan and Singapore. For more information about the full programme, visit the TCFF 2021 website.

TCFF 2021 is a free online event launched on 3 December, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and will run till 12 December. The first TCFF, held in 2020, drew an audience of almost 8,000 from 39 countries.
