Sunrise hosts baffled by Aussie star's red carpet gaffe

Sunrise hosts Sam Armytage and David Koch have had a good chuckle at Rose Byrne’s expense on Thursday morning after footage of the 40-year-old actor’s bizarre pronunciation of rocker Keith Urban’s surname emerged.

The Aussie A-lister chose to fly in the face of convention by placing a heavy emphasis on the ‘a’ in Urban, transforming it into ‘Urbane’.

Rose made the gaffe while discussing Keith and his wife Nicole Kidman’s donation to the bushfire relief on the red carpet at the New York City premiere of her new film Like A Boss on January 7.

Sam and Kochie weren’t about to let the Troy star get away with the blunder, calling her out during a chat with showbiz reporter Nelson Aspen on live TV.

“I've always really liked Rose Byrne,” a clearly amused Sam said.

“But I'm sorry, she's sprouting a good message like all the celebrities are, but Keith... it's Urban. He's not Urbane!” she added before the trio collapsed into fits of laughter.

All jokes aside, Rose made use of her opportunity to raise awareness about the catastrophic fires that have claimed the lives of at least 25 people and half a billion animals across the country so far.

The Sydney-born star gave props to fellow Aussies Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe and Celeste Barber for their fundraising efforts before urging people to donate ‘even a dollar’ to bushfires relief funds listed on her Instagram page.
