Troy DeVolld Dies: Longtime Unscripted Producer From ‘Basketball Wives’ & ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Was 53
Prolific reality TV producer Troy DeVolld, who worked on Basketball Wives, Dancing With The Stars and Hollywood Game Night, died Oct. 14 in Casselberry, Fla. He was 53.
His passing was confirmed by the DeGusipe Funeral Home in Florida.

An Ohio native, DeVolld studied fine arts at Flagler College and Full Sail University. His TV career began in 2000 with a gig on MTV’s Fear. He then began working almost nonstop in the unscripted space on shows like The Osbournes, The Surreal Life, House Rules, The Bachelor, Flipping Out, Who Are You Wearing, Paris Hilton’s My New BFF: Dubai, and She’s Got The Look.
His work on the Basketball Wives franchise began in 2010; he served as a supervising producer and a co-exec producer on both the original and Basketball Wives: LA. He went on to produce the Hollywood Game Night, Dancing with the Stars, Hollywood Divas, and Virtually in Love.
He wrote two books about the small-screen business: the 2016 tome Reality TV, An Insiders Guide to TV’s Hottest Market, and the 2021 book And Another Thing: A Beginner’s Guide to the Television Notes Process. He was also a regular panelist at Story Expo, an annual conference for writers.
DeVolld is survived by his mother Gail; sister Melissa Hughes and brother-in-law, Joshua Hughes.
