Popular YouTube personality Trisha Paytas has sparked controversy online with her latest video, in which she reveals she identifies as transgender because she feels like she's more masculine than she is feminine.

The former ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ contestant has often made headlines for her zany remarks and outlandish videos, but the clip titled ‘I AM TRANSGENDER (FEMALE TO MALE)’ has been slammed by many within the LGBTQI community as ‘transgender-baiting’ and her use of language surrounding the topic.

In the 15-minute video, the 31-year-old says she's basically a “gay man” who likes to dress in drag.

“I identify with men better. People always think there's something wrong with me because I don't have that many girlfriends but I do love girls - I love their sensitivity and all the stuff like that. That's why I identify more as a gay man because I like guys but I also identify as a guy.”

She then continues by adding that she thinks in her head she feels like she is a “female transgender to male but also like a drag queen”.

“I don't like to be centre of attention, except for when I want to be the centre of attention. Think of it like a drag queen: they do their full glam and everything but in their day to day they're not, they're very low-key, whatever.”

Trisha goes further into the use of pronouns before finishing with a statement that has most of her fans worries she is confused and struggling with her gender identity - and isn’t in fact transgender like the video title suggests.

“It's not that I'm confused it's that I identify as both, I just don't necessarily like the term they or them. So do I think I'm transgender? yes a thousand per cent, do I identify with my natural born gender? yes a thousand per cent. So I think that's where I'm at and I feel really free and liberated.”

Her statements in the video, which has already received over 42K dislikes after it was posted on Monday, are drawing criticism across the board.

One Twitter user shared their outrage online: “The fact that she ‘feels’ like being trans one day and female or male the next, it’s insane. trans isn’t something you can change your mind about like a pair of earrings.”

Others agreed the YouTube title was a bad choice, sharing “What an idiot, what was she bloody thinking?” and “There are so many things wrong with this video”.

“'I felt happy that I didn't have to do my hair'... sis you’re just lazy not trans," another person commented on her video.

Some were so outraged they even reported her Tweet and video to Twitter, slamming it as click bait.

“Report this tweet. Using gender identity as click bait is a privileged act of violence,” one person wrote.

While she has not officially responded to the backlash, Trish did fire back to that particular tweet.

“You don’t know me, my journey, my struggle, my transition,” she wrote. “I’ve been with a gender identity therapy specialist for the past 6 months cause I hated who I was since I was 3. Think before you tweet, THIS is more harmful than me sharing my story.”

There were plenty who supported her need for sharing her story and her openness to revealing how she felt, however believed she should have thought about how she chose to do so first.

“I think she might be actually confused about her gender identity which doesn't deserve the beat down. However her use of language, and overall weird approach to the whole thing is kind of shitty,” one person said.
