I Tried Wendy's New Limited-Edition Salted Caramel Frosty So You Don't Have To

As fall ushers in cooler weather, enjoying a cold treat might not seem like the obvious choice—but a Wendy's Frosty is great for any season, especially when it's a flavor that conjures thoughts of crunchy leaves and cozy fires. The creamy, indulgent texture of a Frosty pairs wonderfully with autumn vibes, whether you’re cozying up in a sweater or taking a crisp stroll down a colorful tree-lined street, and Wendy's just released its new Salted Caramel Frosty, which sounds like the perfect fall treat!

Regardless of the dropping temps, I had to grab this Frosty and I am so glad I did! The new Salted Caramel Frosty is available now for a limited time, and it may just be the perfect cold treat for Fall, but I think it should be called something else. Read on for my full review.

What Is Wendy's New Salted Caramel Frosty?

According to Wendy's, the new Salted Caramel Frosty is made with the iconic Vanilla Frosty as a base and that is "combined with notes of rich, salty caramel perfectly balanced by Wendy's smooth Frosty texture." This will replace the Vanilla Frosty for a limited time.

What I Thought About Wendy's Salted Caramel Frosty

I grabbed a large Salted Caramel Frosty as a treat to go with my Wendy's lunch (a baked potato and chili). Unfortunately, I decided to do this at lunchtime on a Saturday, so the line was long and the Frosty had already started to melt a little by the time I got it.

When it comes to eating a Frosty, preferences differ. The texture is somewhere between soft serve ice cream and a milkshake, so you can eat it with a spoon or let it melt a bit and sip it with a straw. The pro move is to dip your fries in it.

Because it had melted a bit, I decided to sip the Frosty. It hadn't melted quite enough to drink it easily, but after a few seconds of trying, my mouth was filled with the unmistakable taste of caramel, but not so much salty caramel. That quickly turned to another flavor that I couldn't figure out right away, so I took a few more sips and it hit me—this tasted more like butterscotch than salted caramel.

Butterscotch and salted caramel are very similar, but salted caramel has a rich, indulgent flavor that balances sweet and salty elements. Butterscotch has a rich, buttery sweetness with warm, caramel-like undertones.

Personally, I like butterscotch, so I enjoyed the flavor, but if you expect a Frosty full of salted caramel flavor, you might be disappointed. If you're like me and like butterscotch, this will be the perfect fall treat for you. Butterscotch is a great fall flavor because its rich, buttery sweetness and warm caramel-like notes make an autumn day feel cozy. If you wanted to bump up the saltiness, you could do some fry dipping to balance things out.

Overall, I enjoyed Wendy's new Salted Caramel Frosty, but I think it should have been called a butterscotch frosty. Nitpicky naming suggestions aside, I'll be getting this again before it's replaced with another flavor!
