All About Travis Scott's Parents, Wanda and Jacques Webster
Travis Scott gets his musical talent from his father, Jacques Webster Sr., and his sense of style from his mother, Wanda Webster
Travis Scott's Houston pride runs deep — and he has his parents, Wanda and Jacques Webster Sr., to thank for it.
The couple raised their three children — Travis, born Jacques Webster II, and twins Joshua and Jordan — in Missouri City, a suburb that sits just outside of Houston. Jacques Sr. was an entrepreneur who, according to a 2020 Forbes interview, attempted to pursue a musical career full-time while Wanda worked for AT&T.
In 2020, the Astroworld rapper told GQ that becoming a dad gave him more things to discuss with his parents. Travis shares two children, Stormi and Aire, with beauty mogul Kylie Jenner.
"It's actually cool, because now we have things to relate on, right? Just raising a daughter," he said. "I'm always talking to my parents. They try to remind me of how I was when I was a kid."
So who are Travis Scott's parents? Here's everything to know about Wanda and Jacques Webster Sr. and their relationship with the rapper.
They have three kids
Though it's unclear how long Wanda and Jacques Sr. have been together, one thing is for sure: they're proud parents. The couple welcomed their first son, Travis, on April 30, 1991. He told GQ he was a “super energetic" kid — one his mother still affectionately calls "Baby Jack."
"Happy birthday to my son Baby Jack," Wanda wrote on Instagram in 2021. "To see you soar and break every barrier brings me immense joy. You make me so proud. I can’t believe my baby isn’t a baby anymore."
The couple also welcomed twins, Joshua and Jordan, almost a decade later on June 14, 2000.
Travis often stayed with his grandmother until he was 6
Although the Webster kids spent the majority of their childhood in Missouri City, Travis actually stayed with his grandmother, Sealie, for the first six years of his life in a neighborhood in southern Houston called Sunnyside.
“My grandmother stayed in the hood so I seen random crazy s---," the rapper told Complex in 2012. "I was always like, ‘I gotta get the f--- out this s---.’ It gave me my edge—[it made me] who I am right now."
In 2021, Travis' charity, the Cactus Jack Foundation, donated a garden at an elementary school in Sunnyside and dedicated it to Sealie. He told Preview that the inspiration came from his grandmother, as she always had a garden in her backyard that she was tending to.
Jacques Sr. is a musician
Travis isn't the only Webster man with musical talent. The rapper grew up watching Jacques Sr. play the piano and drums. He even bought his son his first drum set when he was only 3 years old and taught him how to play.
"My grandfather has his masters in music composition," Travis told Complex. "He was a jazz composer. My dad was a musician too. He played more like soul music ... That’s where I get my whole music theory from, my pops and my grandfather."
Wanda got him into fashion
Outside of his Grammy-nominated hits and sold-out shows, Travis regularly breaks the internet with his influential style and major collaborations. He told GQ that much of his interest in fashion came from his mom, whose copies of Vogue and Architectural Digest he read as a kid.
“Every Christmas she would always have me in a full Nautica fit or a full Purple Label Ralph Lauren fit or some RRL," Travis said. "A lot of this stuff is expensive. My mom, she did a lot and worked very hard to get us what we wanted.”
They cut him off when he dropped out of college to pursue music
Before he launched his music career, Travis was a student at the University of Texas. He told Complex he attended for two years before dropping out to follow his dreams of being a rapper and producer. There was just one problem — he didn't tell his parents.
Instead, he took the money they sent him for books and a new computer and used it to buy a plane ticket to New York City. Travis spent four months in the city and relocated to Los Angeles before his parents figured out what was really going on.
"I was lying to my parents like, ‘Man, I’m in school,’ " he said. "They came to visit me, I wasn’t there. I was like in a whole other state. I came back home to Houston, and my parents is like, ‘Man, get the f--- out my house, you’re not about to do s---, you about to be a bum.’ I told them I left because I was doing rap music ... My phone turned off the next day."
They support his career now
Despite the early bumps in the road, Travis' parents are now his biggest fans. While Wanda is vocal about the pride she has for her eldest on Instagram and frequently shares pictures of her attending his concerts and events, Jacques Sr. is a little more reserved. However, the rapper told Complex in 2012 that his dad is definitely proud of his success.
“My dad was on the phone like, ‘Son! You did so much! I’m so proud of you!’ " Travis said. "I was like, ‘Yo dad, you just told me I wasn’t about to do s---!’ Like, if I wasn’t where I am right now, what kind of conversation would I be having with my dad right now? I be thinking about that s--- every day man."
They work for his foundation
Both Jacques Sr. and Wanda play an active role in the Cactus Jack Foundation, a non-profit Travis launched in 2020 to provide support and resources to young people in his hometown. In addition to donating toys to Houston families on Christmas Eve and hosting charity softball games, the organization awards scholarships to students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
"Excellence abounds in every Black household, but too often opportunity does not — and Black students are left behind or counted out," Travis said in a 2022 statement after donating $1 million to 100 HBCU students. "So that's what my family and I set out to change."
Wanda thinks Kylie is a wonderful mother
After Aire was born, Kylie posted a video to her YouTube channel introducing their son to the world. In it, Wanda talked about how fatherhood has changed Travis — and how happy she was that Travis' then-girlfriend Kylie was in their family. (Travis and Kylie split less than a year later.)
"You know, this was the best thing ever for him," Wanda said. "I see a different person in my son. And you, as a young mother ... what a wonderful mother you are. You always think about Stormi first. And that is so wonderful. I’m so blessed and I’m so happy that you are the mother of my grandchildren."
