Tori Spelling and her daughter StellaThe mom of five candidly opened up on a December 2024 episode of her misSPELLING podcast about how she's leaning on her older daughter amid her divorce from Dean McDermott. She shared that her daughter Stella has been acting as a second mom to her other four kids as Spelling has adjusted to being separated from her ex-husband.
"Being a single mom and they're with me, and their dad and I are super amicable and, you know, working through everything for the futures of separate families, but the kids live with me," Spelling said. "I'm the primary caretaker."
"And, as a single mom providing for them, there's times when I'm working and I'm hustling. In the last three months, I've really been working my butt off, and I'm super grateful for that work," she continued. "But it's like, it's been constant, and there were days, you know, my kids range from 17 to 7. The 17-year-old, a 16-year-old, a 13-year-old, a 12-year-old, and a 7-year-old. And to be honest, and she calls herself this, my 16-year-old, who is my eldest daughter, has always said, I'm the second mom, and she really is."
Spelling filed for divorce from the Canadian actor, 58, in March, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason behind their split in court documents obtained by PEOPLE at the time.
On the Friday, May 17, 2024, episode of her podcast misSPELLING, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum revealed with listeners that her children gave her an “un-Mother’s Day” celebration all around Los Angeles. At the beginning of the episode, Spelling said that it was her “first Mother's Day, single, going through a divorce, with [her] 5 kids.”
“Typically, I would plan something, like, for years,” she began. “I guess we're conditioned to think you're supposed to have Mother's Day brunch. I don't even know where that even initiated."
“But every year, I felt the pressure like, ‘Oh, it's Mother's Day. We're supposed to go to a brunch, and I would find some, like, great place and and do that.’ And then the rest of the day was all about the kids,” said Spelling. “I was always on edge. Like, oh, it's a time thing. We can't relax. We have set plans."
