Tony Hale mispronounces Hiroyuki Sanada and Dominic West while announcing 2024 Emmy nominations
The "Arrested Development" star mistakenly said "Hiroyuku" and "Dominique."
No award show event is complete without at least one name flub.
This time around, the unlucky speaker was Tony Hale, who teamed up with Abbott Elementary actress Sheryl Lee Ralph on Wednesday to announce the nominations for the upcoming 2024 Emmy Awards ceremony.
While reading off the nominees for Lead Actor in a Drama Series, the Arrested Development star pulled an "Adele Dazeem" not once but twice. He mistakenly pronounced Shōgun’s Hiroyuki Sanada as “Hiroyku” right before stumbling over the name of The Crown’s Dominic West, who he instead announced as “Dominique.”

Though Hale did not address the dual flub on social media, he did share a photo with Ralph to his Instagram Story, writing, “So fun announcing the @televisionacad nominations with this wonderful lady!”
The newly unveiled nominations mark the first-ever Emmy nods for both West and Sanada, whose respective series will also compete in Outstanding Drama Series. Shōgun was particularly successful, earning the most nods for a drama series, with 25 nominations overall. Meanwhile, The Crown snagged 18 nominations for its final season.

While the series about British royals has come to an end — marking West’s last chance to be nominated for his role as Prince Charles — Sanada may have a second opportunity to win for starring in Shōgun.
In May, FX surprised fans — and shook up the Emmy race — by announcing the development of two more seasons of the series based on James Clavell's epic novel. It was also reported that Sanada, who plays Lord Yoshii Toranaga, had closed a deal to return for season 2. This news removed Shōgun from competing as a limited series, moving it instead to the drama categories.
Along with The Crown and Shōgun, the other nominees for Outstanding Drama Series include Fallout, The Gilded Age, The Morning Show, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Slow Horses, and 3 Body Problem.
The 2024 Emmy Awards will air Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC.
