Tom Payne Admits Date Nights 'Don't Exist' as He and Wife Jennifer Åkerman Transition to Family of 5 (Exclusive)
The couple welcomed twins in April and are also parents to son Harrison, 2
Tom Payne is adjusting to being a family of five.
Speaking with PEOPLE at the premiere of his new film Horizon: An American Saga, Payne chatted about welcoming his twin daughters earlier this April with wife Jennifer Åkerman. The couple is also parents to son Harrison, 2.
"We are really happy. We've just got to get through these first couple of years, I think, and then we'll have our own challenges," Payne tells PEOPLE, noting that his son has "been amazing" at being a big brother.
"Honestly, most people are like, 'Oh, he'll feel pushed out of the way and he'll throw them in the bin.' Even our doctor told us that," the dad of three continues. "But he's been amazing. You just have to involve them in everything and like, 'Hey, these are your new sisters and we love you all, and we can all muck in together.'"

While the transition has been pretty seamless, Payne admits that date nights between him and Åkerman "don't exist."
"Because we have to have two nannies now, so we have one solid nanny, but then when we go out we need two. Because one of them has to put our son to bed and the other one has to look after [the] twins while that happens," Payne explains. "So we now have that in place I think. This is really the first real proper night out that we've had."
In April, PEOPLE exclusively announced that Payne and Åkerman welcomed twins together. "We are overjoyed to share the news that on April 1st, 2024, we welcomed twins into our family! An entirely unexpected and wonderful surprise," the couple shared in a statement to PEOPLE. "Harrison is over the moon to have not one but two new siblings."
"Jennifer and I have joked that he had something to do with this because there's nothing he likes more than a house full of people."
In 2022, the couple exchanged vows for the second time in a lavish wedding in New York City. Although they originally planned on getting married in April 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic shifted their plans, resulting in them tying the knot in December 2020.
Payne and Åkerman welcomed Harrison in 2022, sharing the news on Instagram.
"I can't believe you're here. We love you immeasurably and will always be there for you. The next big life adventure starts here! Thank you so much to everyone at Cedars Sinai, our amazing doula Carmen and all of our friends and family for the support. Not forgetting my incredible wife who rocked the whole pregnancy and birth. I love you," Payne wrote in his caption.
"I can't believe you are here. Welcome to the world Harrison Magnus Austin Payne," Åkerman echoed in her own post. "We love you so much."
