Social media held its breath on Friday watching an Instagram video of NFL star Tom Brady jumping off a cliff and into the water, with his six-year-old daughter Vivian.

The New England Patriots quarterback and husband of supermodel Gisele, posted the video, shot at a waterfall during a family trip to Costa Rica. In it, Vivi, wearing a pink bathing suit, stands on top of the cliff next to her father.

“Ready?” the 41-year-old asks his daughter. He counts to three and the two jump from the rocks while holding hands. “If Vivi is going to be an Olympic champion one day, it probably won’t be in synchronized diving,” Brady wrote on Instagram. “Daddy always gives her a 10 though!”

The athlete commented under the video, “I didn’t want to be the first Brady to fall off a cliff!”

The daredevil move shocked Brady’s celebrity friends.“You KNOW I have complete faith in you as a man, friend, player and father – but this just gave me anxiety. Geeezus,” Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson wrote. Diddy responded with a crying face emoji and former NFL star Brett Favre wrote,“She is a 10 but old dad gets a...” with a thumbs-down and laughing emojis.

“Nothing like getting a torn labrum at 10 years old,” added another. And a person remarked, “He was in motion, if he let her go she could have been seriously injured on the rocks.”

Some tweeted that the star “irresponsible” and that the 6-year-old appeared nervous to make the leap.

Brady and Gisele, who have been married for ten years, have faced judgement for their parenting. In 2018, during his Facebook documentary series, Tom vs. Time Brady gave his 11-year-old son Jack a quick kiss on the lips, which was widely declared as inappropriate.

And when the New England Patriots lost the 2018 Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles, Gisele was called patronising for telling her disappointed children, “...Their whole life, they never won a Super Bowl. You have to let someone else win sometimes.’’

Gisele then cleared up the situation on Twitter. "Just to be clear. No one 'let' anyone win,” she wrote. “People win because of their own merit. Tired of people twisting my words to create drama that doesn't exist!"
