Tina Knowles Says She Needed the Definition of 'Savage' Explained After Beyoncé Name-Checked Her in Hit Song
Knowles opened up on 'Sherri' about getting a shout out from her famous daughter on "Savage"
Tina Knowles needed a run-down on the meaning behind Beyoncé's hit "Savage."
The businesswoman, 69, appeared as a guest on Sherri for a Renaissance World Tour-themed show where she and host Sherri Shepherd sported matching red, sparkly costumes that "Cuff It" singer, 42, wears when she performs the remix of her hit with Megan Thee Stallion, "Savage."
While discussing their matching looks, Shepherd, 56, mentions that she loves when Beyoncé "shouts out" Knowles in a verse of that version : "And my mama was a savage/ n----, got this s--- from Tina."

When Shepherd asks if Knowles was "surprised" by the mention in the song, Knowles replies: "Oh my God, yes."
"Well, you know that song came out, someone called me and they were talking about it, and I had no idea because you know she never tells me anything," she recalls of the track.
But Knowles didn't know what the line about her being a "savage" meant.
"I was like, is that a compliment though?" she said, before adding. "I don't know if I want to be a savage. I didn't know what it was at the time, but it was a compliment."
While Knowles didn't get an explanation from Beyoncé about the song, she did get one from her own assistant.
"She was like, 'No Miss Tina, that's a good thing,'" Knowles laughs.
The daytime talk show host and Knowles then began discussing the Renaissance costumes and how the superstar's mother helped create her tour looks.
"Actually, she told me she that wanted to have more than one stylist. I actually hired four people — it would have been impossible. We had over 600 costumes to choose from," Knowles told Shepherd, to which she replied: "600? That's a whole truck by itself."
Knowles then revealed that her daughter still has 150 costumes she has yet to wear.
"But every night she did four to five new costumes," Knowles said of Beyoncé's recent tour.

Knowles recently praised the success of her daughter's tour on her Instagram account with a screenshot of a New York Times Facebook post about a story analyzing Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour and its economic impact.
“Anything Beyoncé does becomes a cultural event, but the Renaissance World Tour has become a cultural movement,” the outlet's caption read. “By its close this weekend, the tour will have generated an estimated $4.5 billion for the American economy, about as much as the 2008 Olympics did for Beijing.”
Alongside the the post, Knowles praised the economic success of both the Renaissance World Tour and Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, writing, “This is so awesome! To [be] able to stimulate the economy is no small feat! @beyonce And @taylorswift !”
“Just being young women and being able to say this is so awesome!!!” she concluded. “Proud of them both!”
