Last October, Miles Mitchell made a name for himself as the winner of the Timothée Chalamet lookalike contest. Months later, the doppelgänger kicked off this year as a star in his own right at the 2025 Golden Globes.

Mitchell, 21, looked right at home on the award show red carpet on Sunday, Jan. 5. He posed with fellow celebrity lookalike Max Braunstein, who was named Glen Powell's twin at a competition in Texas last November. The duo smiled together while holding signs that read, “I won a lookalike contest and now I’m at the Golden Globes.”

The real Chalamet, 28, even stopped for a quick photo with Mitchell, marking their second meeting since the iconic lookalike contest in October.

The social media sensation appeared as cool and collected as any A-lister at the event with a broad smile and a classic tuxedo, though he admits to PEOPLE exclusively that he's far from a Hollywood veteran. In fact, Mitchell had never even been to the West Coast before CBS invited him to this year's Golden Globes.

"It was definitely probably one of the coolest things I've ever done in my life, by far. They called me Friday night at 9:00 p.m. asking me to go on a morning flight to L.A.," the New Jersey resident recalls. "It all happened so fast, and I was just like, 'Wow, I guess I'm doing this now.' I didn't even have anything to wear. I literally bought a tuxedo arriving into L.A., because I had zero time to prepare for a red carpet outfit."

The red carpet experience was far more than Mitchell imagined: "I always thought the red carpet was just a little walkway that people would just go in to enter a building, but it was a whole thing," he shares. "There were all these photographers everywhere. There was different sections of the red carpet for different things."

He continues, "It was so interesting getting an inside look at the things that I normally would just look at on TV or on my phone."

Much like Mitchell's last time seeing Chalamet — who did crash the original lookalike contest, though in the chaos of the crowd, didn't meet the winner — at A Complete Unknown screening event, their encounter was short and sweet. Mitchell says Chalamet was "flying by the red carpet" since the show was just minutes away from starting.

"I don't think he really stopped for anyone except me. I can't be too confident on that, [but] he wasn't really stopping for anyone," Mitchell tells PEOPLE. "I think people were calling out, 'Timothée, it's the lookalike. It's the lookalike,' from the barricades, and then he noticed me."

Besides reuniting with Chalamet for a brief photo op, Mitchell was in the presence of some of his other favorite celebrities. He tells people he stood less than a foot away from the likes of Emma Stone, Miley Cyrus and Harrison Ford.

"I have a La La Land tattoo of [Stone and Ryan Gosling] dancing," says Mitchell. "But I didn't want to go up to her and be like, 'Emma Stone, I have a tattoo of you on my leg.'"

The young rising star did tap some willpower while hanging out amongst the brightest stars in the business.

"I was told the red carpet is more professional," he explains. "Everyone on the red carpet is already someone. You can't just go up to people like, 'Oh my God, I'm your biggest fan,' or something like that. So I was controlling myself."

However, some people did approach Braunstein and Mitchell to take photos and share their appreciation for their red carpet appearance. He says Moana voice actress Auli'i Cravalho walked right up to them to say, "You guys slayed that."

After the carpet wrapped, Mitchell watched the show at the viewing party held in a room beside the actual ceremony space. Still, he enjoyed almost all of the same perks as the superstars next door, including the meal catered by Nobu: "I've never ate so well in my life," he notes.

The viewing party room also happened to be the engraving room, so Mitchell got to watch every winner get their names engraved into their Golden Globe statuettes.

According to Mitchell, he and his new pal Braunstein shared a similar astonishment at all that they witnessed at the event. The Texan lookalike actually spent some time chatting with Powell, who gave Braunstein a hug immediately upon seeing him.

"Oh, look who's here!" the Hit Man star said in a video captured by E! News before the "twins" snapped a selfie together. Powell also brought over his mom, Cyndy, to say hi to Braunstein, whom she previously met at the actual competition. The actor's mom didn't just attend the event, though; she also had the honor of crowning the winner himself.

Mitchell says he and Braunstein spent the whole night bonding over the "unique experience" of attending the award season kickoff.

"We became best friends because of it ... We had such a unique experience together," Mitchell adds. "We're just ordinary people that were just thrown into a mix with a bunch of super high-up, powerful people, super entertaining and talented celebrities and actors. We were just like, 'Wow, I can't believe this is happening to us.'"

There was only one thing about the night that Mitchell wasn't totally happy with: his lookalike lost out to Adrien Brody in the best motion picture drama performance category.

"He totally should have won that. I was actually so devastated that he lost," Mitchell says of Chalamet. "Granted, I didn't see the other movie and the other actor when he gave his speech, it really seemed like he also [put] a ton of passion into his project, which makes sense. Of course, I'm biased, but I totally believed that Timothée deserved to win."

Before the N.Y.C. lookalike contest, Mitchell wasn't particularly familiar with Chalamet's oeuvre. Back in November, the college student told PEOPLE that he'd only seen Dune 2, "not even Dune One," he admitted at the time. Now that he can add A Complete Unknown to the list, Mitchell will be riding for the star all award season long.

"I feel like with some actors in movies, you just see the same actor in that movie. You don't see that character," he shares. "I think Timothée Chalamet does a great job of actually portraying Bob Dylan. I never watched the movie and said like, 'Okay, this is just Timothée Chalamet as this person.' No, that was Bob Dylan."

And if Mitchell's dreams come true, he won't just be supporting the superstar from home. He said he would love to attend even more award shows in the future.

"This was the most fun I've ever had in my life," says Mitchell. "I mean, it was just within not even 24 hours that I got invited and flown out. I'm always down for more spontaneous events like this to attend, no matter what."
