Yahoo Lifestyle Tiger Woods announces he won't play at WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational
Tiger Woods will not play at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Woods, 44, announced the news Friday, saying he will instead begin prepping for the PGA Championship and upcoming FedEx Cup playoffs.
Woods said he was disappointed he would miss the invitational.

The WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational will take place July 30-Aug. 2.
Woods’ announcement comes a week after he finished 40th at the Memorial Tournament. Woods needed a late rally to make the cut at the Memorial, but rebounded during his third round of play. Woods said he struggled with a back issue during his second round at the Memorial. He’s struggled with back injuries over the past couple years.
Why is Woods skipping the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational?
Woods pulling out of the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational isn’t necessarily injury related. With the PGA Championship starting Aug. 6, Woods would have played in events three straight weeks, something he rarely does. On top of that, Woods would have played in an event a week before a major, which he usually avoids.
Woods said he believes missing the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational is the best thing to do to prepare him for the PGA Championship. He’ll look to rebound at the event after a tough showing at the Memorial Tournament.
