Things go south fast when man tries to buy snake off Instagram

While social media has become a popular platform to buy and sell unwanted items, that’s not to say you can just pick and choose whatever you see in the background of someone’s post.

In a rather odd exchange over Instagram one man has tried to buy another person’s pet snake after seeing it in a picture on his newsfeed, but when the owner replied saying it wasn’t for sale things took a dramatic turn for the worse.

“Hi mate is that tree boa for sale?” the man asked.

The owner gave a simple but apologetic response saying, “No sorry he’s not”.

However, the buyer wasn’t going to take no for an answer, this time bargaining, “I’d give you [AU$36] for it?? I’m in taunton r u close (sic)”.

The owner remained patient and apologised again that the snake wasn’t for sale, before adding that they had actually paid AU$180 for the pet tree boa.

After being refused again the hopeful buyer became more aggressive and accused the owner of being ‘rude’ and an ‘animal hoarder’.

“You’ve got lots of animals anyway. I’ll take it off your hands,” he requested to which the owner replied, ‘No thanks’.

“I bet your (sic) some rich kid driving mommy’s Bentley around,” the man then insulted.

“I don’t own a bed frame but ok,” the snake owner replied casually.

But the verbal attack from the man continued, “I bet you don’t even like reptiles, you’re just in it for the money”.

At this point, the absurd situation was starting to become humorous to the owner who decided to play along saying, “Damn you got me I hate them”.

The buyer then threatened the owner saying, “Ur (sic) just lucky I’m not getting the police involved…” to which the owner found even more hilarious and dared him to do it.

Screenshots of the exchange were later shared to Reddit and people couldn’t believe what had just gone down.

…is this even real…? Are there people even like this? I mean–I can’t fathom. I hope to god I never run into one of these types of people, my lord,” one person commented.

“OP’s [original poster’s] humility is off the charts. This is the realest post I’ve seen here in a while,” another said.

Others couldn’t get over the part where the man threatened to get the police involved, with one person joking, “Calls police: Sir this man refused to give me his property which he rightfully owns by law please arrest him”.

“This is so nonsensical. What does this person think the laws are?” another questioned.
