The XC40 Recharge: Setting The Standard For Automotive Sustainability

Volvo XC40

Volvo is known worldwide for its innovative safety features and pioneering designs; now it’s leading the way in its sustainability initiatives too. After announcing in 2019 that every new car in their range would either be partially or completely battery powered by 2025, the Swedish company has just launched their first pure electric, compact SUV. Volvo Cars aims to become a fully electric car maker by 2030 and in its commitment to an ongoing reduction of its carbon footprint, with the ambition to be a climate-neutral company by 2040. The XC40 Recharge Pure Electric is a beautifully designed, all-wheel drive – and it’s leading the way in car electrification. With reimagined design details and seamless experience connectivity, it lets you enjoy the power of a Volvo car alongside the knowledge you’re being environmentally responsible.

Impressive Power

Its impressive propulsion comes via the strong 78kWh lithium-ion battery. This produces 300kW of power, sent to all four wheels via twin 150kW electric motors, and controlled via a single-speed transmission. Because the battery is in the floor of the car, there’s a low centre of gravity, meaning tight corners are a breeze. It gets to 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds, making it one of the most powerful cars Volvo has ever produced.

Strong battery life

When it comes to battery life, the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric has a fully charged maximum range of 418km, this is dependent on how you drive and environmental conditions. The fast charge feature also enables the car to charge from a range of 10 per cent to 80 per cent in around 40 minutes.

Smart and sensible

Volvo is known for its innovation, and this car is no different; the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric has no start or stop button; once it’s unlocked, you simply sit down, and drive off. When you’re driving, the Clean Zone Multi Climate system removes harmful pollutants entering the car from the outside environment, so you’re breathing fresh air for your journey.

Exceptional connectivity

The XC40 Recharge Pure Electric is the first car in Australia to come with a fully integrated Google Android Infotainment operating system, with Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play Store all built-in. This allows for a seamlessly integrated, and more streamlined driving experience. The system is responsive, intuitive and more personalised than ever. Use hands-free voice control to get real time traffic info, automatic re-routing, and keep in touch with friends and family. You can access apps and music through Google Play and a premium Harman Kardon sound system. Plus, the integrated Google maps allows you to plan your route around upcoming charging stations. Want to get organised at home while you’re in the car? You can control your compatible smart home devices all from the road, so the lights, room temperature are just right when you get in.

Superior Safety

Safety is in Volvo’s DNA, and the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric is no different. Four cameras provide a 360° view, so you can park and reverse with confidence. There’s a cross traffic alert with autobrake which detects vehicles crossing behind and applies an autobrake if needed. It also makes life easy for you if you’re stuck in busy traffic. The Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) provides active support when changing lanes; if there’s risk of a collision, the system will subtly adjust your steering, sending a small vibration through the steering wheel and help you steer back to the middle of a lane. Plus, there’s an intelligent safety assistance technology that can help you detect other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists or large animals by autobraking or emergency steering support.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric is a fully electric car with zero tailpipe emissions.
