The cast and crew of The Simpsons are in mourning after the death of a colleague who worked on every episode of the popular animated series for 33 years.
Chris Ledesma, who served as the show’s music editor from its premiere in 1989 up until May 2022 when he stepped down due to health reasons, has died aged 64. His cause of death has not been revealed.
The program paid tribute to the TV legend’s passing in its most recent episode, showing an animated version of Chris holding a conductor’s baton while sitting alongside Homer, Marge, Lisa, Maggie and Bart on the Simpsons’ famous brown sofa.
“In loving memory of Chris Ledesma,” the cartoon was captioned.
Several members of The Simpsons crew past and present have taken to Twitter to pay tribute to their late colleague.
“Chris Ledesma was a sweet man who loved his job and was really, really good at it. We miss him,” writer Carolyn Omine shared, followed by showrunner Al Jean who described Chris as, “A wonderful, hard working, very talented man who will be missed by all he knew”.
“Chris Ledesma was a sweet, goofy guy with a giant heart — his amazing musical life is played out over 33 years of @TheSimpsons,” executive producer and showrunner Matt Selman tweeted.
“Chris Ledesma’s passion for music and for @TheSimpsons was an inspiration,” Jake Schaefer, the show’s new music editor, said. “I’m grateful for the time I got to spend with him this year. He was a great mentor and a genuine person. My heart goes out to his family. Rest In Peace Chris.”
In September 2021 Chris tweeted about a “significant milestone” he had achieved on The Simpsons.
“I am 23,242 days old. I have worked on The Simpsons for 11,621 days. Born 1/28/1958. First day on #TheSimpsons 11/22/1989,” he wrote. “Not many can say they have worked at ANY job anymore for LITERALLY half their lives.”
Chris is survived by his wife of 39 years Michelle, his two daughters and three grandchildren.
