Lisa Wilkinson left red-faced after The Project guest fails to recognise her

She’s one of the most famous faces on Australian TV but a guest on last night’s episode of The Project failed to recognise Lisa Wilkinson on the panel.

British ventriloquist Nina Conti appeared on the show last night to talk about her upcoming Australian tour, when host Lisa Wilkinson turned and asked her to “show off her bag of tricks”.

Nina replied saying: “Lisa, Are you Lisa?” to which Lisa awkwardly laughed and said: “Yes”.

The ventriloquist tried to save the moment by saying: “It’s so nice to meet you,” before fellow The Project host Hamish Macdonald said: “The Lisa Wilkinson”.

Sensing she may have said the wrong thing, Nina moved swiftly on, while the panel continued with the rest of the show.

The awkward encounter comes just two months after it was reported that tensions behind the scenes of The Project had been at sky high, after fellow host Peter Helliar allegedly made a comment to 59-year-old Lisa on the set of the popular current affairs show.

According to The Australian, Lisa “shuffled off the set” of the program a little while after Peter told her on air, “We love having you on our show”.

The publication claims “she was not sighted again, either during the 90-minute-plus extravaganza or the after-party”.

However, neither Lisa or the other stars of the show have confirmed this was the case.

Lisa famously jumped ship from Channel Nine to Channel Ten after quitting the Today show in late 2017 after a reported pay dispute.

She’s gone on to host Sunday Project and conduct a series of high-profile interviews on the show, and filled in on the weeknight desk as well.
