The Towelkini is here, and we are very confused

Picture this: you head to the beach, ready for a great day of sun, surf and sand.

Oops, you’ve forgotten your towel; day ruined.

Alternatively, you’ve forgotten your swimmers; you can never come here again.

Well today there is good news for the absent-minded, because the internet has delivered a towel/swimsuit combination that makes zero sense but will ensure that the above scenarios will never play out again again.

World, meet the Towelkini.

A towel/ bikini combination from New York online retailer Special Special, the Towelkini features arm, leg, and head holes in what otherwise appears to be a normal beach towel.

The combination fits like a snuggie, leaving the rear or front of the body exposed to the elements depending on what way you wear it.

A logistical flaw has been spotted by many, who point out that when it comes to the beach, the towel will allow you to neither lounge in the sand without getting a sandy bottom, nor swim in the ocean without being dragged down by the material.

The towel comes with an instruction tag, however that clears up any question of its exact function.

“Keep the baes at bays,” the tag reads. “Have all your haters throw in the towel when they lay eyes on your in this.”

The status-conscious item is a creation by artist Aria McManus, and advertises itself as the Towelkini.

“(The Towelkini) melds the two essentials for all things beach, no need to carry a cumbersome towel and an easy to lose swimsuit – here they come as one, materialized as ideal (sic),” the website’s compelling product description reads.

Defiant of its impracticality, the towel was retailing for a cool $288 but you may have missed your chance to nab the fluffy number that ‘puts to OW in towel’, because the website reports it is sold out.

It’s not the first swimsuit to raise eyebrows, although most cause a stir with the ‘less is more’ mentality.

Earlier in the week a non-waterproof swimsuit designed for ‘poolside posing only’ made waves, and earlier a tropical bikini attracted ridicule online due to an unfortunate dye job.
