We all know the golden rule of travelling – always make sure you have your passport.
However hapless jetsetters have revealed there’s a rising trend for one thing that’s seen them caught out without their identification on them.
As airlines struggle with the amount of hand luggage being taken on planes, the Telegraph reports that baggage is being taken off travellers at the boarding gate to be put in the hold – with holidaymakers forgetting to take their passports out and being caught out when they reach immigration at their destination.
Add to this popular budget airline Ryanair’s new policy for putting passengers’ second piece of larger hand luggage in the hold for free, and multiple travellers claim to have been caught out.

One holidaymaker says he was ‘detained’ at London’s Stansted airport after travelling Ryanair and having his backpack put into the hold at the last minute.
He was forced to call a friend to get his bag for him, and rescue him from immigration.
“I had to wait behind the line at the desk until a friend brought me my passport,” one traveller told the Telegraph.
“I don’t know what I would have done otherwise. Airlines should tell you to keep your passport with you when they take your bag.”
Travel lesson learnt – make sure you take all your essentials out of your bag before it goes under the plane!
