Terri Irwin has made an an eerie confession about her husband Steve Irwin’s premature death, revealing the wildlife fanatic had always thought he would die young.

Steve tragically died in 2006 at the age of 44, after he was struck in the heart by a stingray barb whilst filming on the Great Barrier Reef.

“You know, he never thought that he would have a long life,” Terri said whist appearing on ABC’s Anh’s Brush With Fame. “He just always kind of had this sense that his life would be cut short.”

In fact, he was so convinced by his spine-tingling premonition, Terri said it spurred the dad-of-two to spend more time with his kids, Bindi and Rob, before he died.

“I remember him saying to me, ‘I don’t think I’m going to film anymore, I just think I’m going to spend time with my kids,'” she said.

Terri then became very teary as she recalled the family’s last goodbye with The Crocodile Hunter at an airport as she headed off to Tasmania with the kids and leaving her hubby of 14 years behind because of work commitments.

“I remember him at the airstrip waving goodbye and I felt so bad for Robert, because he was too little,” she said, explaining he was restricted from seeing him by his seatbelt.

Despite getting emotional, Terri still glowed when she recalled her cherished memories of her husband, including how Steve proposed to her after a sweaty afternoon of working at the zoo.

His legacy has continued to grow thanks to the work of Bindi, who turns 20 next week, and 14-year-old Rob, who, is the spitting image of his late dad.

Recently he attended the Logies and walked the red carpet holding a snake — just like Steve did in 2003.
