Tell Us The Wildest Rumor You've Ever Heard About Yourself

We all know how rapidly and recklessly rumors can be spread. Gossip by word of mouth is bad enough, but now we also must contend with how easily rumors can take off on social media. Though some rumors may come from a kernel of truth, most are nothing but a crock of crap. Hearing an outlandish and untrue rumor about yourself can be pretty upsetting.

Perhaps you heard a rumor in college that you were transferring because you got a B in your organic chemistry class. You were known for being a devoted student who was hard on yourself and took grades seriously. You complained about that class to your flatmates a lot, and it turned out one of your flatmate's boyfriends was in the same lab. He bragged to some of your classmates that he got an A while you, the golden student, ended the course with a B. Somehow, that began the rumor that you were so upset by your grade that you were transferring schools. Frankly, you didn't care about the B that much and were just thrilled to be done with that class for good.

Maybe you went through a rather nasty breakup with a coworker after catching them cheating on you, and they decided to tell the entire office they dumped you because you purposefully killed their cat while they were visiting their parents. Despite the story's ridiculousness, much of the office turned against you, and you became a total outcast. Your ex didn't even have a cat; they sometimes fed a neighborhood stray, but you definitely didn't kill it. They just wanted to make you seem like the villain before you could tell anyone that they cheated on you with their high school ex-girlfriend when they went home to visit their parents. You quit three months later.

Or perhaps your busybody aunt saw you tagged in a friend's Facebook album of all their summer vacation pictures. Although you were only tagged in a couple of photos from the weekend you met that friend at their beach house, your aunt gossiped to your family about how you "blew off" your summer job to party at the beach for weeks on end. In reality, you visited your friend for three nights and spent the rest of your summer working and saving money before your senior year of college. This spiraled into a rumor that you were partying a lot and considering dropping out of school to live at the beach with your friend. You have NO idea where your aunt got that idea, and you had to set her (and your other nosy relatives) straight at Thanksgiving.
