Avid reader Hailey Skoch hails from Arkansas. When she saw a viral dress on TikTok, she thought she could do better. The result was a massive paper ball gown inspired by her favorite book series. Skoch debuted the head-turning dress for the prom photoshoot at her high school, Prairie Grove High.
Watch this bland Brooklyn bedroom become a mid-century modern escape in just one day:
She shared some stunning snaps of the prom dress on her Instagram page.
“I was not expecting all the support and compliments,” she wrote in the photo caption. “Thanks for all the love, guys. I’m obsessed with this look, and it was made from the books of my childhood, Harry Potter. For me, this is a piece of art about growth and transition into my adult self as I wear the words that brought me so much peace in my youth.”
The dress featured a delicate corset, while the skirt was made entirely of paper fans folded out of the book pages. The text was visible on every inch of the gown, making for some extra special details.
Skoch made the dress with the help of her mom, who is a costume designer and wedding dressmaker. They worked for hours on the gown together as they watched every film in the Harry Potter franchise.
When Skoch revealed her dress to her classmates at the student photoshoot, it was nothing short of a show-stopper.
“It was completely insane because I just kind of entered, and everyone was kind of doing their own thing,” Skoch told the Arkansas Times. “One person saw me, and then another. It was almost creepy in sync — everyone’s heads just turned. It was the craziest feeling I’ve ever had.”
