The surprising health fact about tequila you never knew

After a long week at work, we’re all a little partial to the right of passage that is Friday drinks.

And while wine may be our first choice when it comes to winding down, we just learnt something interesting about tequila.

The folks over at the American Chemical Society conducted a study around tequila, and they found that the spirit could help lower cholesterol, blood sugar and aiding in digestion.

SAY WHAT?!

Well, putting on our scientific spectacles here, it all apparently has to do with the agave plant – what tequila is made from – as it contains agavins, which are sugars that don’t raise your blood sugar when consumed.

In the experiment, the agavins were added to water and were tested on mice.

It was found that the mice who consumed the agavins actually ended up with lower blood sugar.

So while consuming copious amounts of tequila (or any alcoholic drink for that matter) certainly isn’t advised, we’re starting to rethink our number one choice of drink.

It’s the perfect timing to be able to ring in International Margarita Day – think we’ll be opting for Patrón as our choice of tequila.

So, if you excuse us we’ll be sipping on our margs cheers-ing to another successful week.
