Supersized dresses seem to be having a moment. The red carpet at Cannes Film Festival 2019 is covered in frothy, attention-grabbing gowns, with stars including Indian film star Deepika Padukone and Thai A-lister Sririta Jensen posing for photos in outrageously over-sized creations.

But the big frocks aren’t limited to Cannes. Both Lady Gaga, in custom Brandon Maxwell, and Cardi B, in Thom Browne, shut down the Met Gala 2019 red carpet in their giant gowns. Both celebrities needed their own team of handlers to help them tackle the Met’s famous steps.

Elsewhere, Jennifer Lopez hit the red carpet last year in a frothy, layered pink dress while Dua Lipa made sure she was noticed at the 2018 Brit Awards in a voluminous Giambattista Valli design.

And who can forget the iconic, yellow Guo Pei dress Rihanna wore to the Met Gala in 2015?
