The trailer has just landed for 'The Super Models' documentary – here's what you need to know
An upcoming docuseries, The Super Models, will give us an insight into the Nineties fashion scene, as well as the leading stars of that era.
Coming to Apple TV+, docuseries The Super Models will give us a never-seen-before insight into the Nineties fashion scene – and the modals that dominated the era. The series, for which Apple TV+ has now released a trailer, will feature exclusive interviews with Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington, who all revisit their legendary careers.
"It wasn't about the fashion, it was about the women – that's what a supermodel is," explains the trailer, which starts with the famous foursome getting together for the first time in their fifties. "You see our photos, so you feel that you know us," says Campbell, as videos of the models on 1990s catwalks play in the background. "When you come together with your chosen family, I think that's emotional."
The show is set to cover how the foursome rose to fame, and the way in which they redefined what it means to be a model. "Unprecedented access to the models takes viewers behind the camera and beyond the catwalk, revealing how they dominated the elite modelling world while illuminating a bond that single-handedly shifted the power dynamic of an entire industry," details the official press release.
Here's everything we know about the series so far.
Who will feature in it?
As the name suggests, four of the original supermodels – Campbell, Crawford, Evangelista and Turlington – will be the focus of the special documentary. According to Deadline, the women not only star in the series but are also executive producers alongside big industry names like Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Sara Bernstein.
In a preview teaser for The Super Models, the famous four all sit down in front of the camera to answer the question: "How do you define the word supermodel?"
What is the documentary about?
The Super Models – produced by EP and Academy Award-winner Barbara Kopple, with Roger Ross Williams and Larissa Bills directing the series – starts by taking us back to the late 1980s when four different women from around the world meet in New York. It revisits their legendary careers by following their story to fame, their names becoming as prominent as the designers who styled them.
"As the fashion industry continues to redefine itself, this is the ultimate story of power and how four women came together to claim it, paving the way for those to follow," reads a statement from AppleTV+. "Today, the four supermodels remain focal points of culture through activism, philanthropy, and business prowess."
Campbell shared her excitement about the series when it was first announced back in 2020. “My sisters Christy, Linda, Cindy and I are extremely thrilled to share our story with the world and there could be no better partners than Brian Grazer and Ron Howard – which is a dream come true – to bring it to life, as we knew they would respect and honour our story,” she said.
“We hope our journey seen in the docuseries will encourage, motivate and inspire young people around the world. We look forward to this great adventure ahead with director Barbara Kopple.”
When will it air?
The Super Models will premiere on Apple TV+ on 20 September, during fashion month.
